I got my first taste of the Oregon equivalent of severe winter weather today. Over the past 18 hours the Portland metro area has been drenched with ~2 inches of water. This has caused flooding in many of the lower elevation areas and according to the news the coast is even harder hit. I have a 30+ mile commute to work so this was definitely not pleasant as the freeways were like parking lots tonight. Still I’d take the rain over the snow / sub-zero temperatures I’d be dealing with back in Milwaukee.

Well I finally got with the times and purchased my own domain name. This isn’t to say that dyndns.org hasn’t been good to me, but I figure it was time I got my act together and staked my claim out on the Internet. Unfortunately I couldn’t buy Cellini.[com|org|net|us] since there are numerous businesses that operate under that name – but hey at least I can buy a Rolex with my last name printed on the face.
I ended up using Go Daddy as my registrar and I must say that I was impressed. They have a fantastic price on new name registrations and have a fairly painless order process.
Over the next few days I’ll be transitioning both this site and Heather’s site to their new homes on the Internet.

One of the challenges of online education is working in groups on projects.
I still have yet to find a good way to asynchronously write a paper with people scattered around the globe. Given enough over communication it is possible to minimize the amount of duplication of effort / rework, however, this still isn’t like working in real-time with a team. I guess I need to hit Google and see if there is a CVS like product that can work with MS word documents.

I did a bit of research and found that it is rather simple to create your own PDF files without needing to purchase Acrobat. This is something I only need to do once in a while, however, having the ability to do it easily is very handy.
The directions I found weren’t the easiest to follow so here are my notes from my install.

In case anyone ever needs to check the current IP address on OS/2 Warp machine you can do it by typing: ifconfig lan0 | find /I “ INET “ at a command prompt.

While looking through IMDB I happened to come across the entry for Highlander: The Source (aka Highlander 5). I thought this comment found on the IMDB message boards sums it up nicely.

I got a chance to see several new movie trailers yesterday.
Matrix Reloaded
The new “Superbowl” trailer released today looks amazing. Of all the upcoming movies this season this one has me the most excited. The effects shown in the clips look amazing. Hopefully the plot will live up to the thought provoking nature and subtitle detail of the first film. So far I’ve avoided spoilers for the films plot since I want to be surprised (and amazed) like when I saw the first film in the theater.

Today we paid off the remaining balances on both of our auto loans. The extra money we have each month should help zero out our remaining credit card debt faster.
Soon I’ll actually be able to afford a house

I’m often not a fan of forwarded email jokes or other nonsense since they often tend to be unfunny. Recently my Dad forwarded me something that did make me laugh.
