DishPVR Annoyances

January 18th, 2003

It is kind of ironic that I wrote about my DishPVR box yesterday only to find that overnight a software upgrade was downloaded that addressed many of my annoyances with the unit

With the software upgrade my PVR unit now can do the following:

  • Frame by frame slow motion in both forward and reverse
  • Event timers now display the name of the program instead of just the channel.
  • Selecting record while watching a live TV show now brings up a menu prompting to end recording after the show is over (timeslot), or at a user specified time. Previously it would just record until you told it to stop or it ran out of disk space.

All in all I’m happy since this improved the usability of the product.

I’d still like to have dual input tuners and could be networked to allow exporting the content to other receivers in my household (or other devices like my PC). In all fairness Dish Network does offer a dual tuner PVR but I would need to purchase it outright - something I’m not interesting in doing for the reasons discussed yesterday.
