The Bourne Identity

January 23rd, 2003

I picked up the Bourne Identity DVD at Suncoast last night. The great thing about shopping at Suncoast is the Replay card. It is probably the only member reward club that actually pays off for Heather and I. We picked up 3000 bonus points for picking up the Bourne Identity.

According to the box the movie has an alternate ending which should be interesting to watch - I didn’t care for the happy ending (granted I never do) that the theatrical release had. When I first saw this movie in the theater I was pleasantly surprised since my expectations were low considering this was a remake of a TV movie.

I found that it was a refreshing spy movie without the absurd gadgets / villains of the typical Bond fair. In many ways it reminded me of Nikita (La Femme Nikita) which I thought was a fantastic film. Since the film is based on a trilogy of novels I’d be curious to see if another adaptation is in the works.

The Bourne Identity just came out here last week in the theatres. I hate how late movies come out here. Sometimes movies come out right away, like the latest Harry Potter (which was released here in the same week as it was in the US), but most take three to six months to come here. All of the big movies I wanted to see at the end of 2002 are not even out here yet. I have to wait until February 22nd to see Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, March for Die Another Day, and April for Stark Trek: Nemesis. It really sucks.

I also liked The Bourne Identity a lot. I thought it was a really good spy flick and it wasn’t bogged down with too much flashy stufff.

I really miss my DVD player. I left it at home and while I do have my American PS2 here it can’t play any of the DVDs over here. I want to get some kind of convertor but I haven’t had the chance yet.

Sorry to hear about your DVD player - you would think that you could pick up one rather inexpensive over there. I thought Japan, the US, and Canada were all in DVD region 1?

The Two Towers was pretty neat - you should enjoy it. You didn’t miss much with Die Another Day - it is typical of the other recent Bond movies (kinda lame).

Daredevil comes out here in a few weeks :)
