MT Upgrade

I upgraded to MovableType version 2.63. So far so good :)

RIP Buffy

It sounds like Buffy the Vampire Slayer is finally coming to an end. I’ve always thought Angel (the spin-off) was a much stronger show.

Travel Annoyances

I made it to Milwaukee safe and sound. On the course of my journey I did have a few annoyances:

  • VPN token craps out so I can’t access my email remotely
  • Meeting scheduled for while I am in the air
  • Only low speed internet access at the hotel
  • Almost missing my connecting flight since my plane couldn’t dock with the gate because another plane was in the way (it was late to takeoff)
  • Finding out my connecting flight was delayed because the plane had mechanical problems
  • Getting the 15+ pages and 3 voice mail messages that were stored while I was in the air
  • Getting stuck with a lame rental car
  • Finding out that rental car has a bad sounding radio and a weak heater
  • Traveling to a climate where you need a heater (its a balmy 15 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Traveling to a time zone where I have to get up two hours earlier than normal
  • Having to deal with sales tax again

At least I got here safe and sound. On the positive side I did make it in time for the complimentary happy hour at the hotel.

Milwaukee

I’m traveling back to Milwaukee (WI) tomorrow for a business trip. This will be the first time I’ve been back since moving to Oregon last summer. According to the national weather service it is expected to be 18 degrees there tomorrow during the day. Hopefully I have not yet acclimatized to the much nicer Oregon winters.

It will be nice to see my parents in person again.

Portland’s Japanese Garden

Today we went to the Japanese Garden in Portland which (according to the literature we were given when entering) is one of the best examples of a Japanese garden outside of Japan. The grounds were beautiful and offered a nice view of the downtown skyline and Mt. Hood. It amazes me how green everything was given that we visited in February. We plan on returning in the summer when more of the plants are in bloom.

We took several pictures that can be seen here.

New Photos

I was cleaning up my hard drive and came across a bunch of photos I downloaded from my camera. They are from October 2002 when Heather and I went to a pumpkin farm near Portland.

You can see them here.

Life is good

The week is over and I don’t have class (I am in the middle of a week break between classes) so life is great. Heather was nice enough to accompany me to Sushi Track, my favorite restaurant, for dinner. It is pretty cool since they serve sushi by the plate which travels around the restaurant on a motorized track (hence the name of the place). After dinner I tended to my Starbucks habit.

I’m not sure yet what we are going to do for the weekend.

Children’s books

Heather works as a preschool teacher. It seems she is always buying new books to read to her students (she likes books).

I think they would be so much more amusing if they had titles like this:

Consumer Rights

My Senator is sponsoring a bill to require all digital consumer products have labeling disclosing any anti-piracy technology that is contained within the device. Personally I’m for this idea since it will make it easier for consumers to make informed choices.

It is nice to have a legislator with some progressive pro-consumer ideas for a change. It is a welcome departure from the absurd legislated morality my former Senator from Wisconsin used to sponsor.

Class

I just finished my last programming course. Honestly, I’m glad to have it behind me.

I should have my final grade by Sunday.
