Heather and I met with our builder today to finalize the details of our new home. It amazes me the sheer number of things that you have to consider when building a new home. We probably spent about three hours making decisions about everything from what colors to paint the exterior of our house, to what style / color / texture of carpet we want, down to what color grout we want for our tile countertops. Hell I didn’t know grout came in different colors!
Fortunately we have similar tastes so it wasn’t a big deal to find things we could agree upon. Heather is happy since she is getting her granite counters (unfortunately tile since single slab is insanely expensive) and stainless appliances in her kitchen. The builder charges insane prices for appliances but fortunately for us they threw in non-stainless ones as an incentive to buy so with the credit we received on them for replacing them with stainless appliances the net prices ended up reasonable. We don’t have room for an outdoor hot tub but I was able to get a bathtub with jets. We also opted to get structured wiring in all the rooms in the house so it will be nice to not have to string cables all over the place for all of our gadgets.
The good thing is even with all of our customizations we were still able to squeak under just under $200,000. Hopefully in the next few days I’ll get the financing squared away. They expect to begin construction in June.
Don’t forget to build me a bedroom too! I would like a Plasma TV and I think I will go with the sandstone grout.
What the fuck is grout?
It is the stuff used to fill the gaps between tiles.
