Heather and I spent the day doing things around Portland. We took a ride on the Max (Portland’s light rail system) down to Chinatown and the Portland Saturday Market (also open on Sundays). Moving from a city that desired light rail (Milwaukee, WI) to one that has it I am amazed at the convenience it provides getting around the downtown area. It is nice that the downtown area is considered a fair free zone so it costs nothing to ride the Max. I don’t think light rail would work in Milwaukee, but it seems that it works well for mass transit here in Portland.
The Saturday Market was nice to explore since it offers a variety of local arts and crafts in addition to live music and various foodstuffs. It is one of the few places in town that I know where I can find a bratwurst – something I miss from living in the Midwest. I was able to indulge my desire to consume meat on a stick.
When we were done at the Saturday Market we took a quick jaunt over to Chinatown. While there Heather picked up some bubble tea (a drink with tapioca pearls) which she enjoys.

After we were done there we decided to go bowling at our local bowling alley in Wilsonville. I still am a terrible bowler but I did manage to have a game with a score of 111 which is a personal best for me. They have a special on bowling on Monday nights so we are considering making bowling a regular pastime. Afterwards we shot some pool which is an activity I do only slightly better than bowling.
