The Hulk
We saw the Hulk this afternoon and I thought it was a tremendous disappointment.
Given that the film draws its inspiration from a comic book with 30+ years of history and existing stories you think the movie would have some semblance of a plot. Essentially we are presented the origin (revised for this adaptation) of Bruce Banner and how he comes to be the Hulk. So much time is spent on the origin - which wasn’t terribly interesting or exciting anyway - that I was bored 30 minutes into the film. By this point I simply wanted the movie to end but it continued to plod along seemingly forever.
The CGI for the Hulk was done well and he came across as an almost lifelike character much like Gollum did in LoTR. Unfortunately the other characters in the movie were poorly developed. The movie did a poor job of fleshing out the motives that drive both Bruce’s father and the General. I was left to ponder if Bruce’s father actually felt compassion for his accidental creation or if he simply was selfish in his pursuit of science. Honestly by half way through the movie I didn’t care. The dialog between characters was largely inane.
Hopefully they don’t produce a similar dud with the upcoming Punisher film.
Jesus fucking chris you like that pile of turd called Reloaded but not the hulk?
I was so fucking blown away, dave and I were just giddy with excitement (especially when they called Bruce… ‘your rael name is bruce banner’). Man I even hate fucking nick nolte, except for cape fear, but he was AWESOME in this movie.
And ang lee’s directing… heart of a comic book fan. It was amazing, he took a lot of risks, a couple things didnt work, but ovreall it was fucking great.
Jesus I loved that movie. Granted I even said daredevil was good when I first saw it (and reloaded, i now recognize daredevil was allright, enjoyable just for the villians, and reloaded sucks supreme ass) but I have had awhile on this one, and I adore it.
The punisher wil lbe easy to mess up, but I have unwaverng faith in Marvel.
Did anyone else just love the fact that there was only a music score in the hulk and no shitty pop music or new age metal/rock/rap/shit?
Well I thought Reloaded had an interesting concept (one that left me questioning what I saw and waiting for more) and the Hulk didn’t. I thought the plot of the Hulk was pretty weak overall – and this is why I found the movie uninteresting. It had potential and I think it was squandered.
I will agree with you that the direction and the score were both good.
We will have to see what happens with the Punisher.
