A boat called the Merkin

We saw Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle last night. I did not expect anything going in since the reviews were largely negative and I didn’t think the prior film was that great. That said I found it to be quite entertaining.

The Matrix-like action left the movie with an almost cartoonish feeling since the stunts were so over the top any semblance of realism left about two minutes into the move. Hell at one point the villain jumps off the top of a building, pulls “wings” out from under her robe (her Victoria’s Secret villain costume), and flies through the air like Batman. Normally this over the top action mixed with the lack of a cohesive plot would spell disaster - however in this case the sheer spectacle of it all made it entertaining. If anything it was much like the last several Bond films.

Heather and I did find great amusement in the fact that during the movie the Angels are undercover on a ship called the “Merkin“. Apparently the rest of the audience missed that or are unaware that a merkin is a pubic wig for women.

Was it great? No. Was it a good popcorn movie? Yes.

I think I’ll see the film just to view The Merkin. Thanks for increasing my vocabulary.

Heather was the one who originally clued me in to what a Merkin was (no she doesn’t have or need one). If I recall correctly it came up during a game of Scrabble we were playing. The whole concept of a Merkin is so absurd – just think people are paid to manufacture and design them - that we got a good laugh out of seeing it in the movie.
