Batman Begins

Warner Brothers has a teaser trailer up for Batman Begins.

I thought it looked pretty promising since it features a good cast and seems to lack the neon and rubber nipples that plagued the earlier Batman films. From what I have read about the movie it is going to offer a fresh take on the character and ignore the prior films completely. It should be interesting to see how this develops.

Hors d’Oeuvres

Last night Heather and I attended the premiere of Hors d’Oeuvres at Portland’s Stark Raving Theatre. Erin, one of Heather’s classmates, stars in the performance. The play tells the tale of a dinner party that is ultimately doomed to end in disaster. It is both absurd and thought provoking at the same time making for a fantastic play.

It runs through August 14th.

More DishPVR annoyances

A while ago I wrote about various usability annoyances with my DishPVR satellite box. Over the time I have had the unit Dish Network has done a great job of improving the usability of the product via software upgrades. One feature that was added (and needed!) was the ability to resolve conflicts for overlapping event timers. Now when two event timers conflict a menu will popup allowing you to decide which one to keep and which to delete. This is a good thing; however, there is no way to delete only a single instance of a reoccurring event timer that is in conflict. From a usability point of view this is a pain if there is a one-time event that I want to record in lieu of some reoccurring event that I have scheduled. I keep hoping that a future software upgrade will make this work more intelligently.

Even with this little annoyance being able to time shift TV is great. The simple convenience of having the functionality built into the satellite tuner beats trying to MacGyver my own solution. A dual tuner HD capable unit would be nice but I can’t see investing the money that Dish Network is asking for their only HD capable DVR unit.

Heather’s Blog

I finally got around to moving Heather’s blog over to Wordpress. With a bit of CSS fu I was able to make it resemble the design she had previously.

Fireworks

This year we again went up to Fort Vancouver to see the Fourth of July fireworks display. We ended up with much better seats this year and enjoyed the show.

Coffee

Apparently I am not the only person with a regular Starbucks habit. According to this article on /. someone is in the process of visiting every corporate owned Starbucks location in the world.
