Think Different
I’m typing this from my my my new 12″ iBook
My Sony VAIO is in the shop again with another screen problem so I decided to sell it (once it is fixed) and take the plunge and get a Mac. Before I bought the Sony I toyed with the idea of getting a Powerbook instead, however, I elected to stick with the more familiar PC. In hindsight I made the wrong decision - OS X is a joy to use and the hardware is simply rock solid. So far my only complaint was that I had to wait a week to get it because for some silly reason Apple makes integrated Bluetooth a build-to-order option only.
I was impressed that it worked out of the box with my Nokia 3650 smartphone. This was a welcome change from the jacking around I had to do to get it to pair up with my PC. It figures that Apple would release a new version of iLife today, hopefully they will be cool about giving me a free upgrade since I purchased my iBook last week.
Now I just need to find some other cool Mac OS X software to use.
Welcome to the Macintosh community. I think, based on observation, that we are better represented here in Portland metropolitan area.
If you say more about what you want to do with your Mac, people will offer recommendations in regard to cool software. Also, check out the Mac OS X offerings on Versiontracker. You will be surprised by the array of freeware, shareware and commercial software offered. Last, but not least, there is a Portland Macintosh Users Group. I haven’t been active in it for a while, but you can learn more about it at its site or a meeting.
I hope to blog new products introduced at MacWorld and how they impact Apple’s big picture this week.
dah! chimp!
Thanks, I’ve been a sideline observer for quite a while and finally decided to take the plunge. It does seem like I see quite a few iBooks and PowerBooks when I’m out and about in Portland. Thanks for the tip on the PMUG, I should check them out sometime.
As far as what I want to do with my Mac my needs are pretty modest - I want to surf the web, read email, use a jabber client, have a decent shell, and occasionally play music & DVDs.
The new Mac mini looks pretty cool.
