Since I took a long weekend for my birthday Heather and I got to a chance to catch up on some movies we missed while they were in the theater.
Sideways
After reading all the positive reviews about the film I was surprised to find that I didn’t like it. It had a few funny moments but overall I thought it was dull. In a way it reminded me of Lost in Translation; however, I thought it lacked its charm and intelligence. Granted it could just be that I could relate to the humor better since I have visited Japan.
Closer
What a turd. I swear the first half of the movie the characters seemed to talk in long dull asides never actually interacting with each other – by the time it finally started to get interesting I had long since stopped caring.
Elektra
I didn’t think it was possible to make a movie dumber than Daredevil, but somehow the filmmakers managed to succeed. I wasn’t expecting a lot going in but I had at least hoped it would be be so bad it would be funny – unfortunately it wasn’t. What tried to pass as a plot could be summed up like this: “Elektra is a bad ass assassin who is contracted to kill a young girl & her father, she feels bad for them and decided to protect them instead, the guy from Mortal Kombat sends some generic Metal Gear style bad guys after them, and they all learn an important lesson in the end.” *Yawn*.
