Getting older
I turned twenty-seven last week. Since it has become something of a tradition for us Heather took me out to Benihana for dinner where I ended up wearing a silly balloon hat again.
I was really surprised by her gift to me this year – she got us tickets to the sold out Nine Inch Nails show at the end of the month in Vegas!

I’m hoping we can see Penn & Teller while we are in town as well. Neither of us has been to Las Vegas before so it should be a great time.

sucktacular trio
Since I took a long weekend for my birthday Heather and I got to a chance to catch up on some movies we missed while they were in the theater.
Sideways
After reading all the positive reviews about the film I was surprised to find that I didn’t like it. It had a few funny moments but overall I thought it was dull. In a way it reminded me of Lost in Translation; however, I thought it lacked its charm and intelligence. Granted it could just be that I could relate to the humor better since I have visited Japan.
Closer
What a turd. I swear the first half of the movie the characters seemed to talk in long dull asides never actually interacting with each other – by the time it finally started to get interesting I had long since stopped caring.
Elektra
I didn’t think it was possible to make a movie dumber than Daredevil, but somehow the filmmakers managed to succeed. I wasn’t expecting a lot going in but I had at least hoped it would be be so bad it would be funny – unfortunately it wasn’t. What tried to pass as a plot could be summed up like this: “Elektra is a bad ass assassin who is contracted to kill a young girl & her father, she feels bad for them and decided to protect them instead, the guy from Mortal Kombat sends some generic Metal Gear style bad guys after them, and they all learn an important lesson in the end.” *Yawn*.

Daylight Saving Time
Today was the start of daylight savings time, a fact that I seemed to have forgotten. While I was setting the various clocks in our home I was struck by a thought – why the hell do we bother with this at all? No one I know really seems to know why, instead they all have these rather vague notions about how the practice started. The Wikipedia entry on the subject is also sketchy about its origins.
