You never realize how much stuff you have until you move. I’ve spent the entire day packing and I probably have only packed about half our stuff. We were spoiled by our last move since my employer hired a crew to both pack and move our stuff for us.
Oh well back to packing!
This morning we had an appointment with our title company to sign the papers for our mortgage. It ended up taking about an hour and a half to get through all of the paperwork. During this time I realized that I am woefully out of practice at writing out my full legal name but fortunately there were plenty of forms to sign so I got a lot of practice.
The actual transaction is scheduled to close on Monday the 15th. Next Wednesday we have our final inspection with the builder and afterwards we will be the proud owners of our first home.
We now have 50% more grass than last week.
The rest of our appliances were delivered and installed this week so all of the interior work on our home is essentially complete. The only thing missing is the hot water dispenser faucet I had asked for in the kitchen. I spoke with our builder and it looks like this was an oversight on their part which should be fixed in the next few days. I have a formal inspection prior to closing scheduled for Wednesday.

The interior touch ups were finished during the week so the inside of the house is basically done. We now have some plants in our front yard and I’d assume the exterior landscaping will be finished soon. Just a few more minor details left to finish and then it should be ready for us to move in.

I met with our insurance agent today to discuss terminating my renter’s policy and getting a home owner’s policy. This is one of the 10 million things I have been putting off that needs to be done in preparation for the closing on our new home. When I arrived at the office I was surprised to find I have a new agent. He explained my prior agent “left the business” and he was going to try to meet or exceeded the level of service I was given. He seemed a bit taken back when I explained to him how useless my prior agent was and how I thought it should be quite easy for him to exceed that level of service.

Some more detail work was completed this week. The sales office was kind enough to lend me a key so I could take some interior pictures. While I was out there I met with our mortgage banker and talked through all the things I need to get together so we can close. He is going to start drawing up the papers this week and it looks like the inspections & closing will take place in early September.

This week it looks as if the interior was painted (we didn’t go inside because it was locked), the bathroom fixtures were installed, and the upstairs carpets put in. The fence around our patio was erected. Some of the detail work such as the interior molding and exterior details like our address number were also completed. It is scary to think in a few more weeks there won’t be anything left to do but move.

It is scary - our house is starting to look finished. On the exterior both the front pillars and railings were put up last week. On the interior the downstairs flooring, the upstairs / downstairs tile, the stove & microwave, and the light fixtures were installed.
