Even OS X craps itself once in a while.
I don’t grok all the aversion in the techie/gadget press in regards to the iPad.
Do I want one (yet)? No; however, it seems like a pretty ideal device for someone like my wife or father-in-law. They both have pretty typical computing needs – a browser, email, iTunes for media consumption, the occasional word processing. The iPad nails all of these functions out of the box plus has the added bonus of the App Store ecosystem so there are plenty of niche specific apps and casual games to enjoy as well. It seems like a step closer to that task-centric “toaster” computing model which I think aligns well to the expectations of a large part of the population. Panic’s Steven Frank describes this personal computing evolution much more eloquently.
Right now I just want to finally ditch my current Moto dumbphone and get an iPhone. I’m not ready to make the leap to AT&T yet so I was disappointed that the end of their exclusivity for it in the US wasn’t announced this week. Oh well maybe in time for my birthday
Pure Digital has an updated release of their FlipShare application that is Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) compatible. The Mac download link at the Pure Digital site still offers the old version; however, support was nice enough to provide me a download link for version 4.5.1 when I asked for it.
You can grab a copy of the .dmg here.
Sadly my MacBook decided to exhibit a structural integrity snafu recently and began to crack along the right palm rest. Since I have AppleCare I dragged it over to the Washington Square Apple store and was pleasantly surprised to find the Genius could replace the case assembly same-day in only 20 minutes. The whole process was painless – thanks Apple
I’ve been so busy with the kids I forgot to post that SiriusMac 2.0.2 was released last Monday. It features premium audio stream support and includes a number of bug fixes and usability enhancements. Enjoy!
SiriusMac 2.0.1 was released this afternoon. It addresses all of the major bugs and usability issues that the initial 2.0 release suffered from. You can find more details about it here.
Version 2 of SiriusMac – the best damn Sirius satellite radio player for the Mac – was released to the public tonight. You can go fetch a copy here. It fixes all of the shortcomings of version 1.x and includes an all new UI and a “mac-like” drag and drop install. I’ve been beta testing it for several weeks and it faithfully mimics all of the features you would expect from an actual Sirius tuner. It also fixes my biggest annoyance from version 1.x – it now has volume control within the application using code I contributed
Congratulations to VizualMenace on the release!
Goodtime recently posted a UI preview of his StarPlayr (formerly SOX) Sirius radio player application for the Mac. It is planned for release in 2008 – I’m looking forward to running it through its paces and seeing how it compares to Sirius Mac.
