I wasn’t the villain in Transporter 2

For a while T has been telling me that I need to see Transporter 2. I thought it was a rather lackluster sequel that even taken as an “action” movie at times bordered on the absurd. What makes this film amusing is the fact that the villain’s name is pronounced almost identically to my own.

Watching the DVD with subtitles shows that it is spelled with an extra “h” – even so it is still pretty funny to hear.

I like to think that I would make a far better evil terrorist mastermind. At the very least I would be sure to have an evil sidekick / girlfriend who did not look like she was trying to overcome an eating disorder.

New Robotech

Much to my surprise, Harmony Gold is producing a sequel to Robotech, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The site is light on details; however, it looks like the new series will pick up after the end of the 3rd Robotech war. Robotech was hands down my favorite television show as a kid so I’m pretty excited to see it continue on.

Anime Highlander

Imagi has a site up for their anime adaptation of Highlander that I wrote about previously. The teaser shows some promise, at this point I am more excited about this than the upcoming 5th movie in the series.

Now if someone would only do an anime adaptation of Dune – that would rock.

The Aristocrats

Heather and I caught Penn Jillette’s new documentary The Aristocrats last night. It features numerous comedians discussing the worlds dirtiest joke. It is a hilarious look at both humor and obscenity – definitely worth a viewing if you get the chance. The guy who tells his version of the joke while doing a Christopher Walken impression had me laughing for a good 3+ minutes straight.

For the one or two other people who care it looks like Davis-Panzer have some pretty lofty ideas for how to keep milking their cash cow:

Highlander: The Source, envisioned as the first of three new films in the popular supernatural franchise, will shoot in Lithuania starting in October, according to an announcement by Davis-Panzer Productions, Sequence Films and Grosvenor Park.

Davis-Panzer Productions is also preparing an anime Highlander feature film, in partnership with Imagi and Madhouse of Japan, as well as a video game, in conjunction with SCI Games Ltd. of London.

It will be interesting to see if Highlander 5 offers a fresh new take on the material or if it follows in the tradition of the last few movies and is a turd. At least the anime sounds like it could be cool if it were done well.

According to this article at SciFi.com it looks like Highlander 5 might actually get produced. Given the lackluster acting and script of the last film I am doubtful that Adrian Paul can carry the franchise forward by himself. The amusing thing will be to see what bullshit thing the writers pull out of their ass for this installment. Considering the prior films they have their work cut out for them.

Highlander 2: the immortals are actually aliens from the planet Zeist who are in political exile. They try to restore the ozone layer in a lame post-modern future. At least Virgina Madsen was in it

Highlander 3: forget all that alien stuff. Although all the immortals fought to the death in the 1st film we forgot about a few of them who happened to be trapped in a cave. Ops! They happen to break out and hilarity ensues.

Highlander 4: this time around lets try to tie it in to the spin off TV series. Lets kill the main character off for no good reason and then sidestep the obvious plot holes for the next hour of the movie. Look there are ninja guys on motorcycles. WTF?

It will be interesting to see how Davis & Panzer retread their cashcow for a fifth installment.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

I caught a matinee of Mr. & Mrs. Smith this afternoon.

The film was enjoyable but pretty unremarkable. Essentially it is a less intelligent / humorous version of True Lies with a more beautiful cast.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Heather and I caught a midnight showing of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy last night. Since I have yet to read the book it was adapted from I can’t comment on how accurate the translation to film was. Taken by itself I found the film to be an enjoyable romp through Douglas Adams universe. My only complaint was that the actual plot was rather light and a number of threads were left dangling. In spite of the plotting problems the movie was still enjoyable – the actor playing Zaphod stole the show with his over the top performance.
